Carl Buhr

April 30, 1939 — January 16, 2015

Carl J. Buhr, aged 75 years, died peacefully in the company of his wife and children in Sun City Center, FL on January 16, 2015. He grew up in Norwood, OH, son of Joseph and Viola (nee Ritzel) Buhr, and was the loving husband of Diane (nee Luther) Buhr for 51 years. Devoted father of Michael (Linda, nee Dehne) Buhr of Raleigh, NC, Tracy (David) Lewis, Susan (Brian) Fulmer, and Melissa (Randy) Keller. He was a beloved grandfather who just enjoyed a Christmas visit from all of his grandchildren; Emily, Joe, and Elizabeth Buhr; Erin, Adam, Katie, and Jenny Lewis; Brandon and Drew Fulmer; Nate and Madison Keller. He was also a dear uncle to numerous nieces and nephews in the Luther and Beck families. He had been a Boy Scout as a youth and made a trek at the Philmont Ranch in New Mexico. As an adult he served as a leader in Boy Scouts in Norwood. Carl was a graduate of Purcell High School and went on to study engineering at Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati. He served his country in the U.S Army, and his community of Norwood as a police officer from 1969 until 1996, as a lieutenant in the Bureau of Investigation, and ultimately retiring as a Captain. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, traveling with the International Police Association, boating, and keeping up on technology. He also enjoyed square dancing and singing in the German-American chorus. He was a parishoner at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City Center. He was an active member of the Third and Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus in Sun City Center, and had served as the Grand Knight in his council in Florida. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the F.O.E., the American Legion, and the Moose.


Visitation will take place at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 5501 Montgomery Rd. in Norwood, OH on Thursday, January 22nd from 5-9PM, Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30AM on Friday, January 23rd at Holy Trinity Church, 2420 Drex Ave. in Norwood, OH and it will be followed by the burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 11000 Montgomery Rd. in Cincinnati, OH.
