Marianna Wells

WELLS, Marianna. "Oma". Born in Germany on May 21, 1929 to Herbert and Ada (nee Jelloscheck) Salzbrunn. She came to the United States on August 5, 1952, a date she gratefully remembered as the dawn of a new life. Marianna was married to Professor of Physics at the University of Cincinnati, the late Dare Abernathy Wells. She received a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Cincinnati and a Master of Library Science from the University of Kentucky. As a member of the UC Libraries for 48 years, Marianna was in charge of the science collections in physics, astronomy, mathematics, and geology. Upon retirement, she was awarded the title of Emeritus. Marianna loved to write. She published a book that leaves a voluminous account of her experiences living in Nazi Germany during the years of World War II and her foibles and triumphs in making a new home and friends in her new and unfamiliar surroundings. She leaves behind a beloved son, Thomas Wells and an adored granddaughter, Maiana. In Germany, she leaves a sister, Lydia; niece, Marianna; nephew, Stephan, and great nieces, Jana, Anja & Nina. Marianna passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the age of 88 years.

According to her wishes, Mrs. Wells' remains were cremated and will be scattered along a beloved rail line in the Western United States.

A  Memorial Visitation will be held at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 11365 Springfield Pk., Springdale, OH 45246 on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 5:00 PM until time of Memorial Service at 7:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church, 7127 Dutchland Pkwy., Liberty Twp., OH 45044.

*An additional Memorial Service for fellow residents will be held at Cottingham Retirement Community, 3995 Cottingham Dr., Sharonville, OH 45241 on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 1:00 PM.
