Daniel A. Horlander

Apr 24, 1976 — Jul 12, 2026

Daniel "Dan" HorlanderWith broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Daniel "Dan" Horlander, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 12, 2026.Dan leaves behind the love of his life and devoted wife, Lindsay, and their children, Bryson, Ian, Kymber, and Brystal, who were the center of his world. He is also survived by his chosen family, Ray, Sarah, Ian, and Anna Hibbard; his mother, Judy Horlander; his sister, Holly Horlander (Mark); his nephew, Leo Burkhardt; his best friends, Jim Cusick and Shea Thompson; and the entire Dark Horse Inclusion family who loved him dearly. Dan was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Horlander, and his brother-in-law, Kevin Burkhardt. For more than 20 years, Dan was the steady foundation of his family. He was Lindsay's greatest supporter, best friend, and true partner in every sense of the word. They were inseparable. Together they built not only a life filled with unconditional love, but also a dream that became Dark Horse Inclusion—a place where individuals of all abilities could find confidence, acceptance, and belonging.Dan was an incredible father who loved his children beyond measure. He was endlessly proud of Bryson, Ian, Kymber, and Brystal, and there was nothing more important to him than his family. Whether he was cheering them on, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, he showed his love through quiet acts of service and unwavering support. To so many, Dan was the man behind the scenes. If something needed to be built, repaired, moved, or figured out, he was already doing it before anyone had to ask. As the co-founder and Treasurer of Dark Horse Inclusion, he believed wholeheartedly in the mission and celebrated every milestone alongside the riders, volunteers, families, and staff. While he rarely sought recognition, his fingerprints can be found throughout the barn and in the lives of the countless people who found hope there.Dan's kindness reached far beyond his own family. He welcomed everyone with an open heart, never judged others, and believed every person deserved to be accepted exactly as they were. His quiet strength, gentle spirit, and willingness to help anyone left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Beyond his work at Dark Horse Inclusion, Dan dedicated the past 24 years of his career to Arcadis , where he worked as a CADD Operator. He took great pride in his work and genuinely enjoyed being part of the Arcadis family. He valued the relationships he built over the years just as much as the work itself. Dan was respected for his dedication, reliability, and quiet work ethic—qualities that defined him in every aspect of his life.Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, Dan's legacy will live on through the family he adored, the mission he helped create, and every life that will continue to be changed through Dark Horse Inclusion. His love, generosity, quiet leadership, and unwavering belief in others will continue to guide those who knew and loved him.A visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home in Sprindale, Ohio ( 11365 Springfield Pike, Springdale, Ohio, 45246)  .A celebration of Dan's life will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Dark Horse Inclusion, the place that meant so much to him. Guests are asked to arrive no later than 6:00 p.m. to allow time for parking. At approximately 6:15 p.m., Dan will make one final journey down the driveway in a horse-drawn hearse. Those who wish are invited to walk alongside him as one final tribute to a man who walked beside so many throughout his life.In true Dan fashion, the family asks those attending to wear jeans and a Dark Horse Inclusion shirt, if you have one, as a way to celebrate the place and the people he loved so deeply. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dark Horse Inclusion or to the family's memorial fund to help continue the mission that Dan believed in with all his heart. "The greatest legacy we can leave isn't measured by what we build for ourselves, but by the lives we touch along the way."Dan touched more lives than he ever realized. His love, his example, and his legacy will continue to ride beside us every single day.
