It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Dera Costello, a cherished resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, who departed this life on October 4, 2026.
Dera was an adoring grandmother to Matthew Thomas Bowling and Brienne Faye Dick. She embraced her role as a mother with great love, caring deeply for her children Carol Davis, and Roy G. Bowling, Jr. of Palm Beach, Florida. A cherished sister-in-law to Mary Patricia (Edward George) Malone, she was also a beloved aunt to her numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Her friendship with John Aildasani was one of a son and will forever be treasured. She also had an unwavering connection with his long aides Anna, Mumbai, and Laura. Laura, not only, took care of Dera and helped her as her aide, but also, was a neighbor and friend for over 20 years.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas, son, Martin Eugene Bowling and parents John and Minnie East —a loss that echoes through the lives of those who knew and loved them both.
Dera spent most of her life working in the accounting field where she met and became close friends with many of her clients. She took great pride in ensuring that all her clients were taken care of. Dera was a pilar in her church community and built many close relationships with many parishioners, which became lifelong friends.
Dera loved playing the piano and spent many hours playing for many to appreciate. She most especially took great pride in playing for those she loved and even dedicated a song for her late husband that she played during his funeral service.
Dera also had a large love for gardening, especially her rose garden’s she nurtured and cared for leaving behind for people to enjoy for many years to cone.
To know Dera was to love her. She gave so much to all she knew and her laughter, sense of humor, and kind spirit was loved by everyone she met. Dera also enjoyed decorating and adding those beautiful personal touches throughout her house creating a beautiful home.
Dera enjoyed traveling and seeing so many different destinations both domestic and abroad with her family. It was the time spent with family that meant the world to Dera and sitting around a table at an amazing meal she made for everyone or the smell of fresh baked cookies and desserts she very much enjoyed
Dera always found ways to quietly support those less fortunate. Dera gave so genuinely from her heart. She wanted to help as many as she could and gave many a chance that without her, they would not be where they are today.
The legacy of Dera Costello is marked not only by her extraordinary workmanship as an accountant but also by the profound love she held for her family—her husband, children, and grandson among her greatest treasures. Her special bond with her many friends and the many memories they shared, and time spent on the piano playing music for them to forever remember. The memories she has woven into the hearts of all those who knew her will resonate through time, a testament to a life well-lived, filled with kindness and unwavering love.
She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends alike. Dera
