Gerald J. Kroger, 89, passed away on June 11, 2024. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ann (nee Finn) Kroger. Jerry was born a twin, the 5th of 10 children to Camilus and Eva (nee Baehner) Kroger. He was preceded in death these siblings and their spouses, including the late Don (Lue) Kroger, Mary Kroger (Bill) Cuppet, Dorothy (Paul) Whetstone, Jean (Don) Bernens, Tom Kroger, and Doug Kroger. He is survived by his children; Richard (Joanne) Kroger, Julie (Robert) Weber, Robert Kroger, Jennifer Kroger-Frank; his grandchildren Brandon, Jared, and Gabrielle Kroger, Jacquelyn Weber (Ryan) McCarthy, Jennifer Weber, Ashley Kroger, Lauren and Kristen Frank; his siblings, Camile Reynolds, Geraldine Koenig (his twin), and Father Dan Kroger OFM; his sisters-in-law, Arlene Kroger and Sandy Kroger; his brother-in-law, Richard (Maureen) Finn; over 40 nieces and nephews.
He graduated from St. Catherines Grade School in Westwood, Elder High School, and attended seminary school at Antheneaum of Ohio for 2 years. Those credits transferred to Xavier University after he left to help his mother care for his siblings after his father passed away at a young age. He attended UC for Construction Management. He married his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Finn in 1961 and had 4 children. After owning a construction business, he worked as a construction superintendent for Turner Construction, Schweitzer, and Corporex on several projects, which are still visible today. These include the Time Life Building in Chicago, Cincinnati’s Serpentine Wall and Public Landing, The Covington Rivercenter including the Embassy Suites and The Marriott Hotel, the Turfway Hilton, the Baldwin Building renovation, Zumbiel Box, Squeri Foods, and Roosevelt Paper. He was involved in The Knights of Columbus, his Church and served distributing communion to shut ins. He was always doing home improvement projects on his house, his friend's and children’s houses and at his church and children’s schools. In retirement, he enjoyed golf, playing cards, and spending time with the grandchildren. He enjoyed telling Dad jokes.
He donated his body to science to further research and instruction. In Lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Mary Ann Kroger scholarship Fund at Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Make-A-Wish Foundation, or Hospice of Cincinnati.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. 48 W. Sharon Ave., Glendale, Ohio 45246.
A luncheon reception will immediately follow the service in the auditorium at Maple Knoll Village, 11100 Springfield Pike, Cincinnati, OH 45246.
