Janice Staley Torline

Janice Julia Torline (nee Staley), 75, a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother, passed away on May 18, 2025, with her family by her side.

Born February 17, 1950, to Madeleine and Frederick Seton Staley, Jan grew up in Greenhills, Ohio with six brothers. Jan attended the University of Cincinnati, where she met her future husband, David A. Torline, and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

She and Dave married on June 30, 1973, and they created a beautiful life together, including a home in Greenhills that they were blessed to live in for 50 years.

In their 51 years of marriage, they raised three children, joyfully welcomed four grandchildren into the world, celebrated numerous career achievements and enjoyed many adventures traveling the world together, including their beloved Rocky Mountains in Colorado and living for almost four years in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Jan was a caregiver in every sense. She provided outstanding care to her patients at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center and Mercy Hospital in Fairfield, Ohio, where she was recognized for her excellence in nursing with the Florence Nightingale in Nursing Award. Through the American Red Cross of Hawaii, Jan volunteered to train Certified Nursing Assistants to serve their community.

Family meant everything to Jan, and Jan meant everything to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Dave; their children, Jennifer, Doug (Lauren Richey) and Monica DeMeglio; grandchildren Paul, Madeleine, Mabel and Peter; cherished brothers Frederick Seton Staley Jr., Gregory Staley, Jeffrey (Sally) Staley, Dr. Barry (Dr. Ronna) Staley and Dr. Bruce (Dr. Christine Henry) Staley; dear sisters-in-law Cindy (David) Lyttle and Joyce (Mark) Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, David (Lana) Staley; her mother- and father-in-law, Ruth and Albert Torline; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Torline Cleversley.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 11365 Springfield Pike, Springdale, OH, 45246, with a funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 17 Farragut Road, Greenhills, OH, 45218, where Jan was a lifelong parishioner.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Christ Hospital Foundation Cancer Research Program or Hospice of Cincinnati.
