Joseph Anthony Santoro, of Mason, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 10, 2026.

Joseph proudly served in the United States Navy, dedicating himself to protecting the rights and freedoms of the American people. His service was a source of great pride throughout his life.

Joseph was a devoted father to his six children: Lisa Hom, Christina (Mark) Putnam, Andrea (Dean) Peters, Joseph (Janecke) Santoro, Carolyn (Steve) Asman, and Toni (Willie) Duvelius. His greatest joy was watching his family grow, and he took immense pride in each of his grandchildren: Adam Webhy, David (Bethany) Putnam, Nichole (Andy) Juengling, Stephen Brafford, Maria Santoro, Zach (Veronica) Peters, Hailey (Zach) Roy, Jacob Santoro, Marcus Santoro, Daniela Santoro, Corey (Elizabeth) Asman, Joshua (Emma) Asman, Gabriella Sitts, and Sofia Sitts.

He was especially proud to be a great-grandfather to Jackson, Aubrey, Lacey, Ashton, Emberlyn, Copelynn, Sander, Carter, Sloane, Chloe, Adaline, and August. Each generation brought him tremendous happiness, and he treasured the time he spent with them.

Joseph was a loving brother to Raphael, affectionately known to all who love her as “Aunt Babe.” He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 64 years, Rose. Joseph was also preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Livia Santoro; his son-in-law, Terry Hom; and his siblings, Connie Herman and Eugene Santoro.

Joseph created countless cherished memories with his family. He loved the outdoors and fondly remembered riding his bicycle with his daughter perched on the handlebars. He enjoyed gathering around the dinner table with those he loved, sharing his favorite Fig Newtons and sugar cookies, or relaxing with a nice glass of red wine. He had an appreciation for Gallo wine and could always find a way to incorporate good food and good company into his day.

Italian food was one of Joseph’s greatest pleasures, and many wonderful meals were enjoyed at LaRosa’s. Whether sitting down for a favorite meal or enjoying a beer on the porch, Joseph understood the simple joys of life and, most importantly, the joy of sharing them with the people he loved.

Joseph’s Catholic faith was an important part of who he was. He was a devoted Catholic throughout his life and held a special love for St. Francis of Assisi. His faith provided him with strength, comfort, and guidance, and he embraced it faithfully until his final breath.

Joseph was a man who loved to work with his hands. Throughout the years, he enjoyed carpentry and was always working on a project or finding something to keep him busy. His career as an electrical engineer reflected his natural curiosity and ability to solve problems. No matter what he was doing, Joseph was happiest when he was creating, fixing, building, or simply spending time with the people around him.

While Joseph will be remembered for his warm smile, kind soul, hardworking spirit, devotion to his faith, and countless stories and memories, his greatest legacy will always be the love he had for his family. He loved his family with his whole heart and treasured every day he was given with them.

Joseph leaves behind more than memories. He leaves a piece of his heart with each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—a piece that will live on through the love he gave them and the lessons, laughter, and moments they shared together.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
