After a chaotic and beautiful 67 years on this planet, one and a half of those spent living with a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Karol Brown has passed beyond. She believed in both the mysteries of the spiritual and the undeniable beauty of science—taking comfort that her atoms would return back to the energies of the cosmos. Ever a teacher, learner, crafter, and general mischief maker, she was stubborn to the end. Her generosity, intelligence, and humor will be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents John & Rose Brown, her brother Thomas Brown, and great nephew Aiden. Her creativity and love continue to reverberate through the lives of her children Maura MacDonald & Kelsey (Emma) Underwood, beloved nephew Brian (Loni) Brown & niece Ashley Brown, and on to her all encompassing, fierce love for her grandchildren, Henry & Alder, great nieces Lydia & Madison, and great nephew Xander. She leaves behind two beloved sisters, and partners in adventure, Patricia & Mary Ann Brown. As well as countless friends, found family, and even near strangers whose lives she impacted everywhere from casual chats at the grocery store (she couldn’t leave a new place without making a connection with someone), to science fiction conventions, to her work as a hospice nurse.

The family would like to thank Queen City Hospice for their compassionate care. Karol finished her 40+ years of nursing with Queen City, and she requested Queen City when her health declined.
