Patsy June Boyer quietly passed away at her residence in Maple Knoll Retirement Village, Cincinnati, Ohio on September 21, 2019 just after turning 89 years old.
Born September 15, 1930 in Gideon, Missouri, Patsy was the daughter of John L. and Aileen (Hildebrand) Thornton. When she was young, her family moved to Toledo, Ohio where she attended Stickney Elementary school and graduated from Woodward High School, class of 1948. Following high school, Patsy attended the Flower Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse in 1951 assisting with surgeries.
Later, she worked at Fostoria City Hospital and at Graystone Clinic assisting Dr. John C. Bauer. When she retired, she volunteered her services at many local American Red Cross blood drives.
While attending nursing school, Patsy went on a blind date with Dale F. Boyer and “just knew” he would become her husband. In 1952, they married and settled in Fostoria, Ohio, raising five children.
Her family was most important to her and Patsy was happiest when everyone was gathered at her dinner table enjoying her homemade beef and noodles, pie, and the many fruits and vegetables she canned each season.
Although her husband predeceased her after 56 years of marriage, she is survived by her children: Alan (Carol), Mark (May), Linda Gharavi (Sadegh), Janet (Michael Etzinger), and Judy Boyer Rickerd (David). Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Sara, Zachary (Abby), Kendric, Kara, Kane, Leila (Behnam), Camron (Angela), Keon, Kayvon, Rachel, and Olivia; and one great grandchild, Ronan.
In keeping with her wishes, Patsy will be cremated and her ashes will be scattered at a later time. To celebrate her life, donations may be made to OperationSmile.org or SmileTrain.org, organizations that Patsy valued for their specialized treatment in cleft repairs.
