On February 6 th, 2021, Pearl La Vonne (Rudy) Shary age 99, passed peacefully from this life. She was born in 1921 on the Kornhaus/Rudy Farm in Orrville, Ohio. The family later moved to the house “in Town, on the Hill” where Pearl attended Orville Public School, and graduated from Ohio University in 1943 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts & Education and a minor in Music.
Pearl returned to Orrville Public Schools as a teacher for just one year, and then she went to work for IBM. Three years later she joined her brother Doyle (deceased) in the Rio Grande Valley. There, she took a job in a real estate/land office and met her husband Arnold J. Shary, Jr. (known as Tex, deceased). Pearl returned to Ohio with Tex, where the two wed in Akron. Together they lived in Highland Heights, Turkey Foot Island, and then purchased a home on 15th St., in Cuyahoga Falls.
Pearl became a tenured English Teacher at Cuyahoga Falls High School, where she taught English, Public Speaking, Parliamentary Law, and coached the school’s Debate Team.
A gifted piano player, Pearl performed in numerous religious & secular music programs. She was actively involved in the Akron alumni chapter of Ohio University (serving at one point as President), also an elected civic officer in her Homeowner’s association for a number of years. Pearl was a faithful member at St Luke’s Lutheran Church, serving on the Parish Council and leading various other church programs. In her retirement, Pearl focused on serving others any way she could find – her spirit and energy were a beacon to all those around her.
Pearl is survived by her son Mark (Laura) of Cincinnati, her grandchildren Stephen (Lucia), Suzanne (Jeremy), and Catherine (Peter), and her great -grandchildren Keegan, Celia, Orion, and Isaac. There will be no funeral services due to Covid-19 but a public Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
