Shannon Durane Herring, lovingly known as “Duke” and “Doc,” age 94, of West Chester, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2026.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Sue Herring; his children, Sharon Harding (Jay), Todd Herring (Debbie), and Eric Herring (Kristine); his grandchildren, Whitney Fagin (Josh), Erica Farler (Tyler), Ricci Hoover (Reeve), Carrie Pineda (Andrew), Eleanor Herring, and Annabelle Owens (Will); and ten great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara Herring, and his beloved son, Stephen Herring.
Shannon deeply loved his wife, Sandy, and cherished his family. He found great joy in time spent with them and took pride in each generation. He also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, remaining a devoted Arkansas Razorbacks fan and cheering faithfully for both the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Shannon was born on October 11, 1931, in Warren, Arkansas, to John Herring and Clara Herring. From an early age, his life reflected a deep sense of purpose, discipline, and devotion—qualities that would shape his family life, his service, and his faith.
A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Shannon served as a First Lieutenant, carrying with him a lifelong sense of honor, leadership, and commitment. Following his military service, he dedicated much of his life to ministry, serving faithfully as Missions Director for Landmark Church. His heart for missions led him across the world, including meaningful missionary work in China and New Zealand, where he shared the love of Christ with humility and conviction.
Above all else, Shannon loved the Lord. He was devoted and loyal to Jesus, faithfully reading his Bible and praying every day. His faith was not only spoken—it was lived. He was known to be wise, patient, and kind, offering steady counsel, quiet strength, and a gentle presence to all who knew him.
Shannon’s life was marked by steadfast faith, faithful service, and deep love for his family and for others. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched and the generations who follow.
