Shirley Lee Flynn (nee Miller), age 97, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 28, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Shirley lived a life filled with faith, family, friendship, and plenty of laughter. She had a heart of gold, a quick wit, and a personality that could brighten any room. Always the jokester, Shirley loved making people laugh and was never one to pass up an opportunity for a little good-natured fun.
Shirley had a passion for teaching and spent 30 years as a beloved teacher at Springdale Elementary School, where she touched countless young lives. Outside the classroom, she enjoyed tending to her yard, playing cards, and spending time with those she loved.
Above all else, Shirley loved the Lord and treasured her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandbabies, and she never missed an opportunity to shower them with love.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving parents, Roy and Orlinda Miller; the love of her life and beloved husband, Pete Flynn; her cherished daughter, Deborah Flynn Starcher; and her siblings, Louise Simpson, Ruth Thomlin, Juanita Rolfs, Dotty Piepho, and Earl Miller.
She leaves behind her loving sons, Tom (Peggy) Flynn and Tim (Jane) Flynn; dear son-in-law, Larry Starcher; adored grandchildren, Jennifer (William) Phipps and Bradley (Amy) Starcher; and precious great-grandchildren, Josephine and Caroline Phipps, and Mackenzie and Hunter Starcher. Shirley also leaves behind her dearest friends, Nadine and Marlene, who, along with Shirley, were affectionately known as the "Three Musketeers."
Shirley lived life with strong faith, a loving heart, and a wonderful sense of humor. While her family will miss her dearly, they will forever cherish her laughter, her playful spirit, and the countless memories she leaves behind.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 11365 Springfield Pike, Springdale, OH 45246. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens.
