If desired, memorials may be made to Freestore Foodbank, Heifer International or St Vincent DePaul.

Janet was born in Bellevue, KY but spent most of her school years in the Cincinnati area. She met her future husband Stanley, at Hughes High School. After becoming a registered nurse at Jewish Hospital the two were married. She raised five children and helped 3 foster children.  Most of that time was spent in a large 1920’s house, complete with dense woods and multiple pets.  Janet was a frugal but tidy housemaker. She was a steady, loving, unflappable mother.  As the children started to get older she became a Girl Scout leader and library volunteer. Janet continued as a library volunteer until much later in life. About the time everybody was in grade school Janet and Stan took one and then another Cuban refugees to foster. She finally had a more traditional foster boy for a number of years.  Janet has maintained touch with all three who were grateful for the opportunity.

For most of the children’s early years Stan had wanderlust to see the USA.  Janet would help pack up five and sometimes 6 kids in the station wagon and would go camping for two or more weeks and went as far as both coasts and even Alaska by car. She spent most of those nights in a tent on an air mattress and sleeping bag.  There were very few meals that she did not prepare.  As the children got older Stan's wanderlust became international, and she tromped around the world following “Stanley guided tours”.  After Stan passed, she added two countries with grandchildren as companions to make a total of 50 countries outside the US.

In 2001 she took up quilting, making her first quilt for her oldest granddaughter and never stopped after that. The quilt displayed is actually her 101st quilt.  She helped Meals-on-wheels for a while.  After Stanley passed, she added jigsaw puzzles to the mixes of her endeavors.

When grandchildren came along, she volunteered to babysit as needed. Janet was a great role model to the grandchildren because she read constantly and was always anxious to read to and hold her great grandchildren.

Both Stan and Janet lived frugally enough and were financially sound enough to be very charitable to a lot of different organizations including Nativity, where all her children attended. Janet kept donations going her entire adult life right up to the end.  As you can see there are many that will miss her.
