Raymond Bogart

April 22, 1941 — October 14, 2020

Raymond G. Bogart, 79, passed away on October 14, 2020. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Mary Jane Bogart (nee Sanders) for 45 wonderful years. He was the loving father of Erin (Zach) Bowling and Eric (Jill). He was a dear grandfather of Anna and Ella. Raymond is survived by his brother Dudley (Elaine) Bogart and predeceased by his brother Kenneth (Ruth Tucker) Bogart. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews as well as thirteen great-nieces and nephews and seven great-great nieces and nephews.
Raymond was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 22, 1941 to Raymond L. and Ruth P. Bogart and spent the entirety of his life in the Cincinnati area. He was a proud graduate of Madeira High School and was class valedictorian. He attended the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a Ph.D. and enjoyed teaching business classes. Raymond also entered into the family export business, Bogart International Sales, where he never shied away from attempting conversation in a foreign language.
Raymond was a dedicated member of Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church and he could often be found ushering on Sunday or volunteering at the rummage sale or holiday bazaar coffee shop.
Raymond loved Christmas and tirelessly illuminated the exterior of the Bogart home every December. He would make batches of all of his family's traditional Christmas cookies, of which springerles were his most famous. He looked forward to the Bogarts' annual Christmas caroling party and when the group was unofficially dubbed the "Ray Bogart Carolers" it made him very proud! He also wrapped the most beautiful Christmas presents with perfectly tied ribbons and bows.
Raymond loved a competitive game of Scrabble or Boggle and relished quiet moments when he could work on his expert-level Sudoku puzzles. He was a gifted piano player and enjoyed passing this hobby to both of his children. He also enthusiastically shared his love of model trains and stamp collecting.
Raymond was a kind and gentle spirit; a one of a kind man who was a friend to all. He was brilliant and humble. He was honest and hard working. He was the epitome of decency and generosity. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church, WGUC Cincinnati public radio, Alzheimer's Association, or Hospice of Cincinnati.
