Rose Pangburn

Rose Pangburn, born Henrietta Edith Spicer, passed away on June 22, 2022. She was the loving wife of the late Thirl L. (Bud) Pangburn for 56 years.

The family takes great comfort in knowing that Rose was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Bud, who has been waiting for her since he passed away in 1996. She is now enjoying the company of her daughter RoseAnn and son-in-law Griff Otte, as well as her mother, two brothers and a sister and countless close friends and relatives who predeceased her and who are surely welcoming her into eternity with great joy. Rose is survived by her children Diana & Fred Power (WA), Cynthia & Davis Layne (MD), and Tim & Cynthia Pangburn (GA); her grandchildren Laura & Chris Epperly (FL), Regan & Sean Greene (RI), Fred & Noel Poulton (OH), Dustin & Ann Power (OH), Carly & Matt Staublin (CA), and Marc & Nora Pangburn (MD); her great-grandchildren Johnny and Tim Epperly, Matt and Joe Greene, Hudson and Foster Poulton, Ryan and Sarah Power, Gwendolyn and Lucy Staublin, and Ellie and Reese Pangburn; Rose’s twin sister and brother-in-law Gwen & Don Wisman (OH); and many nieces and nephews and friends whom she loved dearly.

Rose loved life and she loved people, she lived an outstanding life by any measure, and she left a legacy of love.

During her life, Rose was dedicated to her family and worked diligently in her home community of Norwood, Ohio. She served as PTA President and Girl Scout leader, as well as in other leadership roles; she worked as a bookkeeper, as a mentor in the local elementary school and as a poll worker; and she worshiped and served in various capacities at Zion United Church of Christ. Rose & Bud loved entertaining and celebrating, and they gathered family and friends together regularly for meals, epic holiday parties, bridge club and current events club at their home on Hunter Avenue. They also treasured the times they spent with family and friends at Pangburn’s Farm, which they built in Indiana as a “rustic” getaway for big get-togethers, playing horseshoes and cards, swimming in the creek, enjoying some BBQ, and wrapping up each day with a bonfire, songs and sometimes fireworks.

A lifelong learner, Rose loved politics, sports (especially the Reds, Bengals and Buckeyes), music, singing, reading, poetry, knitting, traveling and exploring. She was always on the move, spending many winters in the Florida Keys, and often taking trips to visit her kids and friends across the country. She made friends easily wherever she went. Always an optimist and never a worrier, Rose faced loss and setbacks with an always-resilient strength and spirit. She had the great and uncommon gift of making all those around her feel filled up with love and infinitely special in her presence. While she will be greatly missed, we cannot help but celebrate her life well lived. Her light will continue to shine in those who will love her always.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held July 8, 2022, 2p.m., at Zion United Church of Christ, 2301 Indian Mound Avenue, Norwood, Ohio, 45212.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made to Zion United Church of Christ Choir Fund to support Rose’s love of music.
