Shade was a native of Barbourville, Kentucky and Norwood, Ohio before moving to Bardstown Kentucky. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved gardening and the University of Kentucky basketball. He worked at Ford Motor Company for 32 years.

Sara (Lindner) Ertel, passed away peacefully with family by her side on  April 9, 2022 at the Maple Knoll retirement community. Sara resided most of her 102 years in Springdale and Glendale, Ohio.
